African Heritage Month in Honduras, Garifuna Bicentennial +14

10 and April 11 took place in the city of La Ceiba, the Third Committee Meeting International Coordination of the First World Summit of African descent, who in response to Resolution 64/169 of the International Labour Organization ILO, held in the said city of La Ceiba 18 to August 21, 2011. Leaders attended the meeting of Afro-descendant organizations in the Southern Cone, Andean Region, Central America, the Caribbean, U.S. and Spain; also participated as observers representatives of UNFPA, PAHO, the Ambassador of the Republic of Panama, the Director of Special Affairs of the Chancellery of Honduras, the Secretary of State in the Office of Indigenous and Afro-Honduran, Dr. Olga Patricia Falck representing the Inter-American Development Bank and Dr. Pastor Murillo, in his capacity as Rapporteur of the UN Independent.

On April 12 were completed 214 years of Garifuna presence in Honduras and Central America, the main activities were carried out in the Bajamar Garifuna Community, Department of Cortes, with the presence of representatives of all Afro-Honduran communities, international delegates from Spain, Cuba, Puerto Rico, United States, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil. Also attended by the Ambassador of Republic of Costa Rica, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Mexico, Ambassador of the Republic of Panama and Ambassador of the Dominican Republic.

Under the Garifuna Bicentennial +14, in the Commonwealth of Bajamar, the President held a Cabinet, which approved a same Executive Order consistent with the desire for collective good of the Communities Afro-Honduran, the text introduced by the Secretary of State in the Office of Indigenous and Afro-Honduran, Francisco Luís BA Green, underwent some changes in shape at the time of approval.

The African Heritage Month in Honduras, was created by Congress through Legislative Decree 330-2002, the legislative branch as President Don Porfirio Lobo Sosa, additionally aired Executive Decree 004-2006 National Prize of the African Heritage Month in Honduras, in five categories (Political Development, Economic Development, Sports Development, Artistic Development - Cultural, Technical Development - Scientific), as President of the Republic Don José Manuel Zelaya Rosales.

The African Heritage Month in Honduras, was established to promote recognition of the contributions of African culture and African descendants in the identity and national development.

We record that is the first time in the history of Honduras, held a Council of Ministers in a Garifuna Community / African descent, but more important was the adoption of Decree PCM to guide cultural strengthening of indigenous peoples and Afro-Honduran comprehensive sustainable development with identity and the claim of some of their rights.
