On 24 December 2002 was published on Official Gazette containing the Legislative Decree 330-2002, proclaiming April of each year, including AFRICAN HERITAGE MONTH IN HONDURAS. By this Decree, the State of Honduras recognizes the contributions of African cultures in the process of social development and culture of Honduras.
The African Heritage Month in Honduras, is an achievement of the organized struggle of the Afro-Honduran organizations and communities in partnership with organizations, institutions and sectors that also recognize the importance of fighting against exclusion, racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and all forms related intolerance, as well as advocacy of human rights.
THE AFRICAN HERITAGE MONTH IN HONDURAS, there by an Act of the Honduran State, therefore all state institutions, especially the Honduran and Afro-descendant communities (Garifuna - African Descent English-speaking) are Call orientation activities, social awareness and promoting opportunities for equity, tolerance and respect.
There is much to tell, there have been small victories, but there are still big challenges on the road, which may be overcome with less difficulty to the extent that there is more cohesion among the different actors have the capacity to establish common agendas despite the diversity of thoughts and attitudes.
Small but significant achievements have north or south as the process of the III Conference World Conference against Racism, there also arises Resolution 64/169 of the United Nations Organization UN declaring 2011 the International Year of African descent, we must also mention the establishment and operation of the Secretariat of State in the Ministry of Indigenous and Afro-Honduran, as a concrete result of monitoring the Durban agenda, as well as the promulgation of Executive Order 003-2011 (2011 International Year of African descent in Honduras), just menera the convening of the First World Summit Afro-descendants, to be held in the city of La Ceiba, 18 to August 21, 2011.
ODECO, together with the International Coordinating Committee of the First World Summit of African Descent www.cumbremundialafro.org , held the third coordination meeting on city \u200b\u200bof La Ceiba, on 10, 11 and 12 April, will be attended by representatives of civil society of African descent in 15 countries, and officials of donor agencies and friendly countries.
This Month for April is filled with many activities lectures, demonstrations, exhibitions, festivals, sports and cultural activities. On April activities will take place the official inauguration of the African Heritage Month in Honduras, at the Palacio Municipal de La Ceiba and Morazán Hall of Government House.
