Why hold on 21 March?
The United Nations Organization, in order to renew their commitment to work against racism, held every March 21 International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The reason for this date is that day in 1960, police shot against a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa to protest apartheid pass laws. The UN through the day wants to remind us of its intention to combat and eradicate racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and all related forms of intolerance that are held in different parts of the world. Moreover, the United Nations and the international community have created tools to help international order the elimination of racism as the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
also by individual states and have created constitutional and legal steps to eliminate racism in their countries. Unfortunately, the world has not become fully aware of what happened so far and there are still people who believe in the existence of a superior race. While recently succeeded in eliminating the apartheid ruled South Africa, today there are still forms of racism and racial discrimination in many parts of the world.
