First World Summit of African Descent First Meeting

Dear friends:

As is known to you, the Organization of the United Nations UN, where 65 plenary session of December 18, 2009, issued Resolution 64/169, by which it proclaimed 2011 the International Year of African descent, the Resolution states:

1. Proclaimed the year commencing on 1 January 2011 the International Year of African descent, with a view to strengthen the national and regional and international cooperation for the benefit of African descent in relation to the full enjoyment of their economic, cultural, social, civil and political participation and integration in all political, economic, social and cultural society, and promoting greater understanding and respect for the diversity of their heritage and culture;

2. Encourages Member States, specialized agencies of the United Nations system, within their respective mandates and available resources, and civil society to develop and identify initiatives that may contribute to the success of the Year.

3. Requests the Secretary-General, in his sixty-fifth session a report including a draft program of activities for the International Year, taking into account the views and recommendations of Member States, the High Commissioner for Human Human Rights, the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent Human Rights Council and other agencies, funds and programs of the United Nations, as appropriate.

Under this, the Ethnic Community Development Organization ODECO, launched from 2010 an open call to be held in the city of La Ceiba, Honduras, the First World Summit of African descent, in consequence held at the Cultural Center Satuye - ODECO, city of La Ceiba, on 13, 14 and 15 January in progress, the First Meeting of National and International Coordination of the World Summit of African descent.
